Mega Evolution chase cards: every one of them is also a dollar card

Mega Evolution chase cards: Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex gold cards with the Special Illustration Rares

Mega Evolution came out on 26 September 2025 with 188 cards, 132 of them numbered on the card, and it gives the whole series its name. A year on, its value has an unusually tidy shape: every single card in its top ten is also a card you can buy for about a dollar. Same name, same text, same thing in a game — a different rarity.

The ten that carry the set

# Card Rarity Price Cheapest printing
1 Mega Lucario ex #188 Mega Hyper Rare $204.83 $0.81
2 Mega Gardevoir ex #178 Special Illustration Rare $161.98 $0.81
3 Mega Lucario ex #179 Special Illustration Rare $161.86 $0.81
4 Mega Gardevoir ex #187 Mega Hyper Rare $153.00 $0.81
5 Mega Venusaur ex #177 Special Illustration Rare $107.88 $0.83
6 Mega Latias ex #181 Special Illustration Rare $63.67 $0.62
7 Mega Kangaskhan ex #182 Special Illustration Rare $49.95 $1.60
8 Lillie's Determination #184 Special Illustration Rare $46.17 $0.71
9 Mega Absol ex #180 Special Illustration Rare $45.28 $0.83
10 Acerola's Mischief #183 Special Illustration Rare $25.35 $0.17

That is ten printings but eight cards: Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex each appear twice, once as a gold Mega Hyper Rare and once as a Special Illustration Rare. The last column is the cheapest printing of the same card in the same set.

Four rungs, one card

Mega Lucario ex is printed four times, and the four printings are the same card. The cheapest plays exactly like the dearest:

Mega Gardevoir ex does the same:

The two gold Mega Hyper Rares in those ladders are the only two in the set, and between them they are more than a quarter of the value of every priced card in it. If you are building a deck, the Double Rare is the card. If you are collecting, the gold one is the prize — but it is a prize, not an upgrade.

The Trainers people actually chase

The dearest Trainers are all character cards, and each one is a sub-dollar Uncommon in its plain printing. Lillie's Determination leads them.

Card Illustration Plain printing
Lillie's Determination #184 $46.17 $0.71
Acerola's Mischief #183 $25.35 $0.17
Wally's Compassion #186 $18.24 $0.26
Lt. Surge's Bargain #185 $12.44 $0.22

Sealed product

Every Mega Evolution product has its own page on the store: the Booster Box at $299.57, the Enhanced Booster Box at $298.51, the Booster Bundle at $64.21, and Elite Trainer Boxes in two designs — Mega Lucario at $119.54 and Mega Gardevoir at $114.50. The Pokémon Center exclusive version costs more than the retail one.

Worth holding those numbers against the singles above: a sealed booster box costs more than the set's dearest single card.
